Closson Road, a very special "alley" in PEC is home to several exceptional wineries, a lavender farm & B&B, a bike rental and a very special little alpaca farm and boutique by the name of SHED: Chetwyn Farms. Last year, I heard great things about this farm, so one day while driving along Closson - we made a point of stopping by. It was the first time I have ever seen an alpaca up close and I fell immediately in love with these animals. They are gorgeous, quirky and you just cannot help but smile when you see them.
The boutique is housed in an old chicken coup right by the entrance to the property and is full of gorgeous alpaca-related product. Interesting thing I learned from Ted, one of the extremely friendly co-owners (Ted from Shed - there, you'll never forget his name!) is that alpaca wool is hypo-allergenic which makes me happy as I'm allergic to pretty much any fibre that isn't cotton! And while alpaca product in general may seem expensive, the fact is that sheering one animal provides just enough yarn for one sweater per year so the annual yield is very low. Their products are excellent quality and provide great value for your dollar. Visit their site to learn more about their farm and products.
For SURE make a point of stopping by to visit the shop (get a jump on holiday shopping!) and to see these gorgeous animals which are often very close to the SHED boutique (although there is a chance they may be out in the field grazing). If you do see them, I can almost guaranty you will leave with a smile on your face. Please be sure to check their site or social platforms for details on seasonal store hours/closing.
