Back in the spring of 2018, I was introduced to PEC-loving Johannes Debus (Internationally renowned Music Director of the COC, and Artistic Director of Biglake Arts) and his wife, Elissa Lee (Juno award-winning artist and Executive Director of Biglake Arts ) by mutual friends, Anthony Lemke and Maria Gacesa. During that first encounter, they expressed interest in pairing their passion for PEC with their passion for music. Turns out, that passion was contagious (!) so I agreed to help them launch their first festival here called Wellington Water Week.

Fast forward to 2022. Now known as Biglake Arts, Johannes and Elissa will launch the fourth edition of their gorgeous and exciting annual summer festival on August 12^th. 

Both Johannes and Elissa’s outstanding accomplishments and credentials are FAAAAAR too many to list here in this space. I can say that in working with Elissa and Johannes, I’ve learned a great deal about music and have been introduced to some truly exceptional and interesting artists. They really opened my eyes. This isn’t just traditional classical music as one may think.

Music sparks universal joy, and this festival brings together a high-caliber blend of eclectic and provocative music from across the globe, and there are some interesting experiential events too. And it’s right here in our backyard in REALLY intimate and beautiful settings!!!

When you combine purpose with vision, passion and pure grit – magic can happen as it has here, and we are the beneficiaries of their magic.
